The biggest garden spider ever

IMG_0335

Can you spot the big spider next to the Scarlet Runner pole beans? We think it’s an Argiope spider. The name comes from Greek and means “silver-faced.” They’ve appeared all over the garden, in the peas and in the kale. They have a special, thick thread running through their web which is known as a “web decoration.” We read that when threatened, they drop to the ground. So that’s good for the unsuspecting gardeners picking pole beans. This big lady isn’t an aggressive spider! Phew!
